Ira Lipsius has specialized, exclusively, in insurance coverage law for over 30 years. As a seasoned litigator, Mr. Lipsius has argued before 9 of the 13 Federal Courts of Appeals and has argued or tried cases before state courts in over 30 states and before United States District Courts in over 20 states. Many major decisions in the field of life settlement have been argued by Mr. Lipsius and he has participated in cases resulting in in excess of 100 published decisions relating to insurance.
Mr. Lipsius also serves as a consultant to many insurers and industry organizations including as counsel to purchasers of life insurance policies and has assisted leading purchasers in setting due diligence standards for the life settlement industry.
Mr. Lipsius has also been retained as an expert witness by the Justice Department on the issue of insurance underwriting fraud. He recurrently lectures at the University of Connecticut Law School on insurance coverage issues and over the past 20 years has lectured to over 10,000 insurance professionals.
Mr. Lipsius received his bachelor's degree in finance (1976) and his J.D. (1979) from New York University. He is a member of the New York Bar and is admitted to practice before nine United States Courts of Appeal and numerous United States District Courts. After practicing with the insurance coverage law firm, Schindel, Farman, Lipsius, Gardner and Rabinovich, and its predecessor firms for 32 years, he formed and is the managing partner of the firm of Lipsius BenHaim Law, LLP in September of 2011.
Mr. Lipsius is also president of Central Analysis Bureau, Inc., a company which provides financial and safety analysis to the insurance industry in its underwriting of commercial automobile risks.
